The Magellanic Penguin: Species Guide

Independent historical guide to Lupa Corporation’s digital tourism projects in Argentina. Not affiliated with the former operator.

Spheniscus magellanicus

The Magellanic penguin breeds along the Patagonian coast of Argentina and Chile. Adults arrive at coastal colonies to nest, mate, raise chicks, and moult before migrating northeast — returning cyclically each austral season.

Lupa Corporation’s broadcasts focused on colonies where camera installations were feasible — prominently Punta Tombo and Cabo dos Bahías in Chubut. Viewers could observe territory disputes, nest building, and chick feeding at close range while remaining behind protective fencing in managed reserves.

Historical site copy stressed conservation rules: penguins are harmless under normal conditions but bite if threatened; visitors must never touch or harass birds inside protected areas.

These educational streams accompanied the live Vigilia events and gave context to the images viewers saw online — part of Lupa’s wider turismo digital programme linking remote audiences to Argentine wildlife.
